1st Oct - Cusco

Got up around 12, went to a gringo bar called Real McCoy for delicious breakfast, pottered around town for most of the day then ran into Justin and he said the other Aussies were looking for me to book bus tickets to Lima for tomorrow. I wasn't sure what I was up to, but yeah I'll just go with the flow and head off with them, I reckon my time in Southern Peru is at an end.

Booked the tickets with the lads, bus leaving tomorrow at 2pm. Then sat in the Loki bar and chatted to whoever was around. It was great - basically all the people I'd met over the previous wk seemed to be there! Last night out with the Irish girls (except Sarah O'Sullivan who was "tired") and Tim, Evan, Justin from Oz. Eoin and Ivan were around too and a Scottish lad called Alex who I hadn't met but was dead on.

Aside - aren't Germans great? I'd been sort of thinking this but never voiced it and Justin said it to me. And I had to agree! Any Germans I've ever met travelling have been dead on. Sure, there were a couple who maybe I didn't have much in common with but most are good craic. And I've never met an arrogant one. Personally I think it's related to a national shame related to that minor unpleasantness back in the early 1940s but who knows. Either way, Germans are great! And these Germans were also hot. Which helps...

Anyway, craic was mighty in the bar. Great buzz going on. Suddenly loads of shouting and roaring. Ah... must be 2-for-1 Happy Hour! But no, no it wasn't. It was a new concept known as Unhappy Hour. Due to the f-ing election this Sunday, sale of all alcohol was banned by the police. From Fri night until Sun night! I'd like to see someone try to introduce a law like that in Ireland! Anyway we were told that The Point hostel was already raided and nothing was for sale at our bar either. Nightmare. Resourceful as always a few of us went and got rum and cokes and back to our room 109 for an impromptu game of Kings.

Around midnight a few of us (now suitably oiled) strolled down to a curiously vibrant and unraided-looking Point hostel to watch the Aussie Rules final replay. Ran into a couple of lads who I'd been with on the prison tour all the way back in La Paz! Good to catch up. Sadly hateful Collingwood won the Aussie Rules. Yerra we still had a few more pints and the craic! Fun times.
